The "Elvis" ESTATE
North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii
| The picturesque North Shore of Oahu is renown for its world class surfing, diving and whale watching. Located 40 miles North of Honolulu, it is home to Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and the Banzai Pipeline. The areas’ white sand beaches and crystal blue waters are showcased weekly on the television series “Baywatch Hawaii.” Pupukea Estate presides over this paradise from a bluff just above Three Tables Beach Park (a 25-acre underwater park) offering some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the Islands. Maurice Sullivan, founder of the Foodland Grocery chain, began developing his dream estate in the 1960’s. Owning substantial acreage on Pupukea Ridge, he selected this 5.27-acre bluff front parcel for its breathtaking panoramic ocean views. Celebrities and luminaries visited this distinctive retreat. According to urban legend, Elvis Presley stayed at the estate while filming "Blue Hawaii” and the property is known locally as “The Elvis Estate.” Stately entrance gates open at the crest of a gently sloping driveway revealing the magnitude of this private paradise showcased against the blue Pacific. Seemingly endless brick walkways meander past fountain pools, cascading tile waterfalls, lush landscaping and gardens peppered with bronze wildlife sculptures. Tranquil terraces, exposed to gentle trade winds offer a front row seat to the “Ocean Theatre.” Watch Humpback whales and dolphins frolic in the surf, marvel at the colossal winter waves that attract surfers from around the world or just luxuriate in the warmth of resplendent Hawaiian Sunsets. Improvements include a 5.000 square foot Chalet style main house with 5 bedrooms, 4 ½ baths and 2 fireplaces. The floor plan flows out to an extensive bluff front patio serviced by an outdoor kitchen/bar. Just inside the entry gates, set back from the crest of the drive stands the 3 bedroom, 3 bath caretaker’s residence. This 2 story cottage is approximately 3,500 square feet and features an expansive picture window framing the ocean view. A spiral staircase ascends to an enclosed “crow’s nest” overlooking the property and access gates. Once used to showcase Mr. Sullivan’s classic automobile collection, 18 elaborate garage enclosures with tiled roofs are aesthetically situated about the estate. These structures offer a variety of potential uses. Primarily constructed throughout the 1960’s, structures would benefit from renovation. Approved architectural renovation plans are available.
